The most popular and widespread Spanish school in Serbia and the surrounding countries, where everyone who had the time and strength to watch more than 1500 episodes of one or one-and-a-half series is considered an expert in the Spanish language. The main target audience of this series of a unique genre are underage unemployed girls who are sometimes misled into knowing Spanish only after watching 500 episodes, and then use half-learned and half-correct phrases from the above in everyday speech. A huge element for the creation of an incorrect value system among the youth, where a beautiful and incompetent girl, boasting about her beauty, gets a rich heir to a multi-million dollar empire, and ugly people go to prison.

Yes .. but this is not such a list, but is a bit more modern .... :)

The streaming giant has built an impressive catalog of TV series from around the world, with several Spanish, French (in the next blog), and Korean (in another blog) hits making the top 10 in the US over the past few years.

Netflix's Spanish series is a must for any telenovela fan and include genre classics and new additions that subvert some favorite variants. For anyone unfamiliar with their first Spanish show in a high school classroom, there are a few Spanish shows on Netflix that will remind you of your all-time favorites, Gossip Girl, Sex and the City, and even Ted Lasso.

'Money Heist'

One of Netflix's most popular international titles, the story of masked robbers who set out to steal €2.4 billion from Spain's Royal Vault has won over fans with its high-octane thrills and compelling backstories behind the code-named characters.

'Narcos'

Told mostly in English with Spanish dialogue, this popular crime drama chronicles the rise of the cocaine trade in Colombia in the late '80s, following both the leaders of the industry, including Pablo Escobar and the police trying to bring them down.

'Elite'

In this haves and have-nots teen drama reminiscent of Gossip Girl, three working-class students win scholarships to an elite Spanish private school, Las Encinas. Unlike Gossip Girl, the conflicts between the rich and the working class lead to murder, and the first season sets up all the students as possible suspects.

'Cable Girls'

This historical drama, which is also the first Spanish series produced by Netflix, follows four employees of a telecommunications company in Madrid in the 1920s. Over the course of five seasons, Alba, Ángeles, Carlota, and Marga deal with the challenges faced by working women, as well as the political issues of the period.

'Rebelde'

Netflix has remade the beloved telenovela from the 2000s, which takes place in the prestigious Elite Vai school on the outskirts of Mexico City. In this series, a new group of six young musicians must face a secret organization called The Lodge, which does everything it can to derail their dreams.

'The House of Flowers'

This Mexican dark comedy follows the wealthy and dysfunctional de la Mora family, who own a prestigious flower shop and a fighting cabaret, both named House of Flowers. Known as the "millennial telenovela", the series explores the many hypocrisies in modern Mexican society and also features several LGBTK+ characters and storylines.

'Who Killed Sara?'

Last year's hit follows Aleks, who lived happily as a young man until his sister Sara was murdered, and until his rich family manipulated him into confessing his guilt. When he is released after 18 years in prison, Alex is a devil who is ready to use his expertise in technology and explosives to find out who killed Sarah and destroy his rich former friends.

'High Seas'

This Agatha Christie-style post-World War II mystery follows a group of Spanish aristocrats and crew on a luxury cruise as they become embroiled in a murder mystery.

'Valeria'

This Spanish drama is a must for Sex and the City fans. The titular Valeria, a writer working on her first novel, and her friends Lola, who is dating a married man, Carmen, who is in love with the office, and Nerea (Tereza Riot), who is imprisoned and lives with her parents, have a type of permanent friendships and sexual entanglements that Sex And The City fans would love.

'Monarca'

For twenty years, Ana Maria lived far from her family and her shady tequila and hotel empire. When her father is murdered shortly after she returns to Mexico, the estranged daughter decides to stay behind, angering her brothers Joaquin and Andres. All three find themselves on different sides of several conflicts—whether or not to clean up the business, whether to share ownership—while also trying to hold their family lives together in chaos.

'Dark Desire'

This erotic thriller follows a married college professor who has a one-night stand with a younger man while thinking her husband is cheating on her. Eventually, a young man begins to become involved in her life, as she discovers that their night together may not have been as random as it seemed.

'The Cook of Castamar'

The drama goes all the way to Madrid in the 1720s, adapting the novel of the same name by Fernando J. Munez. After developing agoraphobia after the death of her father, Clara becomes a cook for the widowed Duke of Castamar, who has just returned to the people after the death of his pregnant wife.

'I Am Georgina'

This reality documentary follows the glamorous life of businesswoman Georgina Rodriguez, who is also the longtime partner of soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

'Velvet'

Set in the fashion world of 1950s Spain, this romance follows how a working seamstress falls in love with the heir to a fashion empire.

'La Reina del Sur'

Longtime telenovela queen Kate del Castillo stars as Teresa, a young woman who becomes a ruthless drug dealer known as "The Mexican." The original 2011 season was so popular that it spawned both an American remake (Queen of the South) and a 2019 remake, where Teresa is pulled back into a world she thought she had left forever.

'Club de Cuervos'

Before Ted Las, there was this Mexican drama about billionaire Mexican siblings fighting over their family soccer club after their father's death. Although it's a little edgier than another favorite football series, Club de Cuervos also has a balance of comedy and heart-wrenching drama, as well as passionate fans.

'The Queen of Flow'

Set in the reggaeton music industry of Medellin, Colombia, this drama follows Jeimy, a talented singer-songwriter whose youthful dreams are shattered when she is framed and imprisoned for trying to smuggle drugs into the US. Two decades later, he returns to Medellin for revenge and a new chance at fame.

'Sky Rojo'

This Spanish thriller follows three exotic dancers from different spheres who are forced into prostitution. After trying and failing to kill their pimp-turned-club owner, the women go on the run, avoiding their oppressors before they are eventually caught.

'Control Z'

This high school mystery centers on Sofia, a lonely girl who lost her father at a very young age. When a hacker starts spilling the dirty secrets of everyone at her school, Sofia sets out to stop the hacker before something catastrophic happens.

'Ingobernable'

This drama opens with Mexico's First Lady Emilio Urquiza (another role perfected by Kate Del Castillo) leaving her husband, the president. When he is soon killed, Emilia is framed and must work with new allies to save herself and the country.

'Toy Boy'

Male stripper Hugo served seven years in prison for a crime he did not commit. He goes up against a rich and powerful family, trying to prove that Hugo's ex-girlfriend was the one who killed her husband and framed him. While his up-and-coming lawyer is suspicious of him, Hugo has only his best friends and fellow strippers on his side.

And finally ... of course the series from which I learned the most Spanish :)) ... !!!

'La Usurpadora'

Grandma: "Turn on, son, the television set to two. Now that series will be at 4. Today there are 5428 episodes. Jose Angel Miguel Fernando Alejandro died, but today he should be revived."

You: "And what series is that??"

Grandma: Good.

You: "So what's his name?"

Grandma: "I don't know, son...Who still remembers that today..."
